Video Surgeon Version 2
Quick Start Guide (Mac)
Thank you for your order of Video Surgeon. This Quick Start Guide is designed to walk you thru the necessary steps to get Video Surgeon up and running as quickly as possible, which should be in less than five minutes.
All orders, even those where a CD version is purchased, provide for access to the product immediately via a download link. This link can be found on the final page of the ordering routine after your purchase is completed. It is also provided in the order email confirmation that we send to you. Please click this link and download the file to your computer. We suggest you allow it to download in the default download folder used by your browser OR you download it to your Desktop.

Once downloaded double click the dmg file. The security on your Mac may cause a warning dialog to appear, telling you that this file is from a third party source. If so, please allow it to open the file and continue.
After you have double clicked and mounted the dmg file, your Mac should open another window and show you a package file. Double click this package file and it will then walk you through the installation of the program

The install wizard will walk you thru the steps of the installation and when you are done, will place the Video Surgeon program and associated icon in your Applications folder.
After the installation is completed, when you open the program for the first time, you will see a dialog box that ask if you are a Demo User or a Customer. If you select Demo the program will open and show you the remaining time on the demo countdown clock and then allow you to begin using the program. The countdown timer runs when the program is OPEN, even if you are not using it, so please close the program if it is not in use.

If you choose Customer, the program will open a registration dialog that is shown below. Please enter you customer information into this form and submit it. Once our system confirms your credentials as a customer it will send and unlock code to your machine, and thereafter the program will open in the fully licensed mode.

Please note that to register you must use the EXACT same credentials which appear on your order confirmation which you entered. This means that even if your name or email has a typo in it you MUST use the data as it appears.
Opening a File for the First Time
Once Video Surgeon has opened on the screen you are ready to begin using it. To open a file, click the File button and then using the dialog window that open select a video file or browse to the location on your computer where you have video files stored, and select one. The click the Open button at the bottom of this dialog window and Video Surgeon will begin the process of importing the file and opening it. You can also "drag and drop" a file using your mouse, onto the opens SS interface and this will also open a file.

Once you have a file open, you can begin to manipulate it. See the training and learning resources which can be accessed via the Help Button for more detailed information about how to use the program.
Saving / Exporting
After you make changes to a file, you have two alternative options for keeping these. One is to Save the file. This creates a Video Surgeon project file (.vsp) which is an internal format used by Song Surgeon to remember all of your settings. When a .vsp file is re-opened Video Surgeon re-applies these same settings when it opens the file.

Your other option is to Export your changes. This allows you to create a new video file, such as a .mp4, avi, flv, etc. When you Export you are making the changes to this video permanent. Since this file created is a standard video file it can be used and played back in the same way as any standard video file.
